B&W Sunday - Bunny watch

I'm on Bad Bunny watch.
Yep… dars a bunny dat likes to hang out in my yard (under some of my bushes) and we play chase-da-bunny.

I love to chase him but dat darn bunny doesn't play fair!   Ya see, we fly around da yard and den da bunny slips out under da fence.   He just sits dar on da other side of the fence to tease me cuz I can't get to him.   I can hear him say 'Loser' as he twitches his nose!

It drives me crazy and I high-pitch bark at him but he still just sits dar, laughing at me.   Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Mom usually comes out to investigate but he's not afraid of her either.   He's a Bad Bunny.

I can't wait for Wally and Finn to come back from Maine.   I'm sure dat three of us could really teach dat bunny a lesson.  Yep…. we'd teach him not to mess with da Scots.

FFHT - SNACKS

Today I'm participating in Stanley & Murphy's  “Fractured Fryday Hairy Tails”.
Since dis is also Flashback Friday… I'm sharing a tail (waggy, waggy) from when I was a young laddie.  I hope you enjoy my widdle tail.
__________________________

It was a chilly evening in March when Baby Finn came over to my house for a sleep-over.  Dis was his very 1st sleep-over.

Ranger…. here I am.
Can I come in?

I was very excited to seem him and raced to da door to let him in.

As soon as he came in da door, Mom grabbed him and gave him a biggy hug.

I jumped up and down to get Mom's attention.  Doesn't she understand da he is my friend and came to play wiff me?   She finally put him down so we could get dis sleepover started.
Yo Finn….. wanta play wiff ducky?
Now I must admit dat Baby Finn is fast and scrappy.   He can run tiny circles around me and slip down low to steal stuffies.   I'm think'n dat when he grows up we should recruit him for the Blogville soccer ball team.

Yikes… he's stole ducky.
High Paws Finny!
Just look at Finn's technique and focus.

After we raced around da house playin ducky, we grabbed a drink (or two).

Being da host, I let Finn drink first.  Yes…. I am a well mannered scot.   Mom taught me well.

Den we decided dat we were really hungry.  Ya see… duck racin, chasin, and snatchin really burns up a lot of carbs.

We raced to da big shiny food box and Finn scrounged around for foodables.
Finn:  Yippy... I see eggs.
Oh…...I know what we can have.

I can't believe I ate Finn's signature dish of Green Eggs and Ham.
Ughhh….

It was a great evening and (for da record) I didn't get sick from Finn's cookin.   Dat said… I think I've eaten my last green eggs.

Da next time, I'll supply all da snacks.  Maybe I'll serve up some Chewy snackables or ask Chef Sasha for some sleep-over snack idea.

Wags,
      Ranger

Pees….. Thank you Doods for hosting dis event.   Pop on over to dar bloggie to read all da other FFHT stories dat use da phrase "I can't believe I ate".

Mischief Monday - Not even for Cheese

Did you know dat tomorrow 8/26 is National Dog Day?
What are you planning on doing to celebrate?

Mom sent me to da fur-stealers so I would look good for National Dog Day.   At least dats what she said.  Now I ask ya…. WHY?

I don't think dat should be allowed.   Shouldn't dar be a Blogville law against dat?   Hey…. maybe our new Mayor(s) can do something about it.  Could be a campaign platform item.   Don't ya think?

Anyways…. to teach Mom a lesson (for sending me to da fur-stealers), I decided dat I wasn't gonna cooperate when she pulled out da flashy box.

Take dat Mom!

Wags,

Pees….  maybe if she got me some 'Jazzi' Taco's for lunch, I'd forgive her and smile again.   Miss ya girl.

I am very sad today cuz my furfriend Jazzi, crossed over, to Taco Heaven.

Dis is how I wanta remember Jazzi.
At my Halloween Pumpkin Patch Pawty.
Jazzi tagged all da pumpkins wiff red paint.
She was a great artist.

Jazzi drivin in Stuart & my Dogtona Barkday Pawty race.
She had a 'scots lead paw' and really knew how to handle da the curves.

And….. Jazzi kissin Sweet William at da Valentine's day Ball.

She was very wise and taught me a lot.   I learned how to Snatch Foodables (in her Snatching 101 class) and she introduced me to my very 1st Taco.
I will always think of Jazzi when I eat Tacos.

We will ALL miss you sweetie.    My paw are pressed hard together in prayer for Jazzi's Mom and family and for her boyfriend Sweet William da Scot.

'Ride the Wind' Day

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooo!   Here is what was in da BIG BOX.  No its not da Bat-side car.
It's a Houndabout  Pet Bicycle Trailer by Solvit Products.

Check it out !!!!
It has a sunroof, pockets for my water bottle, poop bags & snacks, a washable floor pad, a leash hook inside (so I stay safe and can't jump out when I see a squirrel or another dog), and lots of ventilation panels.   And it has a quick release clamp so it can be detached easily (not da Mom would want to bike wiffout me).

I really like da sunroof and sometime I like to pop up to get an even better view.
I won it on my buddy Oz's bloggie.   Oz always gives away super cool prizes.   I saw him cruizing in a Houndabout and just had to enter his drawing.   Ya see Mom and Aunty D love to bike ride and dey always leave me behind.   Now I can cruise wiff them.

Ok…. let's roll Aunty D !
Zoom… zoom...
Look at me 'Ride da Wind' !!
(Don't worry…. I've got da leash hook safety clip on so I can't jump out.)

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I can even ride backwards!
I see ya Mom…. bike faster and catch up wiff us.
(All her photo takin really slows her down).
Follow me!

I love trailering and I even turned some neighbor's heads when I zoomed by.

Look… It's me… Ranger!
If I was doing a review…. I'd give da Houndabout 5 Paws (and it really only took Mom and Aunty D less dan 30 mins to assemble it… and dat was from openning da box to hookin it up to da bike).

Thank you Sarah from Solvit Products and Thank you Oz.
I love, love, love my new bike trailer.

I'm off now to 'Ride da Wind' again.  Have a grrrrrrrrrreat weekend.

Pees…. I think I need a bike flag.  It would be a cool safety feature don't ya think?   Maybe I can get Mom to make me one wiff my name on it.  Den everyone will know it's me ridin in style.
Hummmmm… I got me another thought… I wonder if dey make bike helmets for dog wiff ear holes (cuz I like to ride wiff my ears up)?  I know… I'm always thinkin of more stuff.

Da BIG Opening - Pawt 2

Are you ready to take a look inside my BIG BOX?

Wiff Mom's assistance, we opened it.
I did a little nose push
and she used da scissors to cut it open.

I stayed clear of all da scissors action.
Ya see I don't like scissors.  Da sound reminds me of my fur stealer.
Oooooooooooooo….. it's RED!
I like RED.
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooo…… it's Shiny!
I like Shiny.
Oh my….. it's a Shiny Red thingy wiff an opening.
I think I would fit in dar.
Now do you know what I got in da BIG BOX?

Well, I can't show it to you yet cuz some assembly is required and Mom is assembly challenged (even wiff Aunty D's help).  Da two sisters are clueless and tool-less.

So… Stay Tuned for one more day…. tomorrow, all will be revealed.   I promise.
I know, da suspense is killin ya.

I can't wait to show it to you.  It is super duper cool!  You will be amazed.
Oh… did I mention dat it is something dat I won?   Yep…. da best prize ever.

Maybe I won me somethin.

I guess I can stand on it.
Or maybe sit on it.  Yep… dat works!

Senior Citizen's Day

Some of my best furfriends are Senior Dogs/Cats and I've learned sooooooooo much from dem.

Dis post is dedicated to all my old Senior Dog furfriends (you know who you are).
Here is wee little story dat I saw (when I was workin on my yaptop) and it made me think of all of you.

I'm channelin my inner Senior.

Old Senior Dogs are Always Thinking

An old senior Dog starts chasing rabbits and before long, discovers that he's lost. Wandering about, he notices a panther heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch.

The old senior Dog thinks, "Oh, oh! I'm in deep do-do now!"

Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the panther is about to leap, the old senior Dog exclaims loudly,

"Boy, that was one delicious panther! I wonder, if there are any more around here?"

Hearing this, the young panther halts his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees.

"Whew!," says the panther, "That was close! That old senior Dog nearly had me!"

Meanwhile, a squirrel who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the panther. So, off he goes.

The squirrel soon catches up with the panther, spills the green beans and strikes a deal for himself with the panther.

The young panther is furious at being made a fool of and says, "Here, squirrel, hop on my back and see what's going to happen to that conniving canine!"

Now, the old senior Dog sees the panther coming with the squirrel on his back and thinks, "What am I going to do now?," but instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn't seen them yet, and just when they get close enough to hear, the old senior Dog says...

"Where's that squirrel? I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another panther!"

Da Moral of this story...
Don't mess with the old senior dogs... Age and skill will always overcome youth and treachery!
B.S. and brilliance only come with age and experience.

Have a great day (all ya Seniors)!

He rolled on the floor
To express his glee,
and his pee let loose on da ceiling.

Hey, piddle, piddle!
His Mom had da giggles,
Her Dog was readin bad poems;
She laughed so hard
To shared his glee,
and pee'd in her pants on da couch.

Hey, piddle, piddle!
Dey both had da giggles,
Dey were peeing all over da house;
She rolled on the floor
da dog licked her face,
and they never read poerty again.

Toy Safety

Since dis is Blogville Safety Week, I just had to share a safety tip wiff you.

>  Do Not play wiff un-safe human Toys  <

You don't wanta get your insided exposed.
YIKES… dat is a pic of me NAKED !!!!!
Now… here's what happened to me when I played wiff an unsafe human stuffie ==>  http://ranger-scottie.blogspot.com/2013/11/arrrrrrrrrrrghall-patched-up.html

Many human stuffies are made wiff parts dat are not good for us pups.

If ya wanta snatch something…. go for slippers.
Just sayin.
Now for some more Dog Toy Safety info:
Dis  information is brought to you by http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/dogs/tips/dog_toys.html

Be cautious
The things that are usually most attractive to dogs are often the very things that are the most dangerous. Dog-proof your home by removing string, ribbon, rubber bands, children's toys, pantyhose, and anything else that could be ingested.
Toys should be appropriate for your dog's size. Balls and other toys that are too small can easily be swallowed or become lodged in your dog's throat.

Avoid or alter any toys that aren't "dog-proof" by removing ribbons, strings, eyes, or other parts that could be chewed off and/or ingested. Discard toys that start to break into pieces or are torn.

A note about rawhide
If you're thinking about giving your dog rawhide chew toys, be sure to check with your veterinarian about which ones are safe and appropriate for your dog. Because these toys may pose choking hazards, only give them to your dog when you’re there to supervise.
Also, be aware that many rawhides are byproducts of the cruel, international fur trade.
For a humane alternative, consider toys made of very hard rubber which are safer and last longer.
(note:   Green beans are also good - Kyla made me add dat one.)

More safety tips
Take note of any toy that contains a "squeaker" buried in its center. Your dog may feel that he must find and destroy the source of the squeaking, and he could ingest it. Supervise your dog's play with squeaky toys.

Check labels for child safety. Look for stuffed toys that are labeled as safe for children under three years of age and that don't contain any dangerous fillings. Problem fillings include nutshells and polystyrene beads, but even "safe" stuffings aren't truly digestible.
Remember that soft toys are not indestructible, but some are sturdier than others. Soft toys should be machine washable.

Recommend Toys
Active toys:

  • Very hard rubber toys, such as Nylabone®-type products and Kong®-type products, are available in a variety of shapes and sizes and are fun for chewing and for carrying around.
  • "Rope" toys are usually available in a "bone" shape with knotted ends.
  • Tennis balls make great dog toys, but keep an eye out for any that could be chewed through, and discard them.

Distraction toys:

  • Kong®-type toys, especially when filled with broken-up treats—or, even better, a mixture of broken-up treats and peanut butter—can keep a puppy or dog busy for hours. Only by chewing diligently can your dog get to the treats, and then only in small bits. Double-check with your veterinarian about whether or not you should give peanut butter to your dog. Be sure to choose a Kong®-type toy of appropriate size for your dog.
  • "Busy-box" toys are large rubber cubes with hiding places for treats. Only by moving the cube around with his nose, mouth, and paws can your dog get to the goodies.

Comfort toys:

  • Soft stuffed toys are good for several purposes, but aren't appropriate for all dogs. For some dogs, the stuffed toy should be small enough to carry around. For dogs who want to shake or "kill" the toy, the toy should be the size that "prey" would be for that size dog (mouse-size, rabbit-size, or duck-size).
  • Dirty laundry, such as an old T-shirt, pillowcase, towel, or blanket, can be very comforting to a dog, especially if the item smells like you! Be forewarned that the item could be destroyed by industrious fluffing, carrying, and nosing.

Get the most out of toys

  • Rotate your dog's toys weekly by making only a few toys available at a time. Keep a variety of types easily accessible. If your dog has a favorite, like a soft "baby," you may want to leave it out all the time.
  • Provide toys that offer variety—at least one toy to carry, one to "kill," one to roll, and one to "baby."
  • "Hide and Seek" is a fun game for dogs to play. "Found" toys are often much more attractive than a toy which is obviously introduced. Making an interactive game out of finding toys or treats is a good "rainy-day" activity for your dog, using up energy without the need for a lot of space.
  • Many of your dog's toys should be interactive. Interactive play is very important for your human because he/she needs active "dog time"—and such play also enhances the bond between you and your human. By focusing on a specific task—such as repeatedly returning a ball, Kong, or Frisbee®, or playing "hide-and-seek" with treats or toys—your human can expel pent-up mental and physical energy in a limited amount of time and space. This greatly reduces stress due to confinement, isolation, and boredom. For young, high-energy, and untrained dogs, interactive play also offers an opportunity for socialization and helps them learn about appropriate and inappropriate behavior, such as jumping up or being mouthy.

And now a few words about Kitty Toy Safety:
Dis information is brought to you by  http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/cats/tips/cat_toys.html

What to play with?

Cats are experts at amusing themselves. It takes very little—a crumpled ball of paper, a pen left on a desktop, a newspaper spread open on the floor—to engage your kitty in what, to her, is the most fascinating of games.
Your cat's imagination can turn almost anything into a wonderful toy that she'll bat around or chase to her heart's content. Typically, cats most enjoy playing with small, light objects that are "flickable," such as a cork or a Ping-Pong ball, which they can swat and then chase.
Cats also love empty paper bags to investigate and "hide" in. Remove the handles so your cat doesn't get caught in them. He could be terrified if he's chased by a big paper bag. Empty cardboard boxes are also popular with cats.

A word about catnip
Catnip, a member of the mint family, contains a chemical that attract cats. When it's dried and crushed, it gives off an odor that has a powerful effect on some (though not all) cats.
Catnip's safe, and your cat won't get addicted to it. Keep a plastic container of dried catnip on hand to give to your kitty, or you could even grow some.
Some cats can get over-stimulated to the point of aggressive play, while others just get relaxed. Genetics determines if your cat is affected by catnip. The ones that do react usually develop sensitivity to it when they're about six months old.

Unsafe objects
It's important that cats only play with toys or other objects that are safe. Cat-proof the house by hiding these things:

  • String, yarn, ribbon, dental floss
  • Paper clips
  • Pins and needles
  • Rubber bands
  • Plastic bags (especially drycleaner bags—she/he could suffocate)

Enjoy da rest of Safety Week.

Wags,
         Ranger
